Palaeographical information Written in the lower margin in three columns, to be read horizontally. The scholium is preceded by a signe-de-renvoi, which links it to the word 'Ἀναξαγόρου' in the main text (Marc. vit. Thuc. 22).
Contextual information The epigram accompanies Markellinos' Vita Thucydidis and reacts to his statement that Anaxagoras was one of Thucydides' teachers. In the left margin, Tzetzes added another verse: 'Ξύλου παῖς ὁ Ἡρόδοτος πρότερος Θουκυδίδου'.
