Ἤλυθον ἀνδρ(ῶν) φέρτατε, πενθήσων, θρηνήσ(ων)·
(καὶ) σὲ μὲν εἰ κ(αὶ) παρ μεγαν ᾤχου περ θ(εὸ)ν ἤδη·
οὔτοι γάρ μ' ἐάα φύσις εἰσορόωντα τεὸν τάφον,
μὴ καταδακρυχέειν· πρό γε μὴν σέο ἡμέας αὐτ(ους)
οὓς δὴ σαυτ(ὸν) ἀφείλεο, ὅσσε, φόος ψυχήν τε,
τῶν θ' ὧν εἴχομ(εν) αὖ πάντ(ων), τὸ κάλλιστον ἐόντα·
αὐτὰρ ἐπεὶ μὴν ὄφλω καί μοι νόος μενεαίνει.
κοσμ(εῖν). ἠδ' ὑμνεῖν σε λόγοισί τε. ἠδ' ἐπέεσσι
τίσω δὴ (καὶ) τόδ' ὅσον μοι σθένος, οὐχ ὅσσον μοι δέον·
εἰ γ(ὰρ) (καὶ) μερόπων γε πρόπας νόος ἠδὲ (καὶ) πᾶσαι
γλῶσσ' ἐπὶ τῶδε ἄγερθεν ἀολλέες, οὐκ ἄν γε σχεῖν,
οὐδ' οὕτω σε ὄχ' ἄριστε ὀίομαι ἄξια τῖσαι:-
