Ἥκω σέ πάντ' ἄριστε πενθήσων ὅμως,
εἰ καὶ πρὸς αὐτὸν τὸν θ(εὸ)ν πάντων ἔβης∙
βλέπειν ἄδακρυς, οὐ σθένω γὰρ σὸν τάφον∙
ἡμᾶς δὲ αὐτοὺς καὶ πρὸ σοῦ φίλτατέ μοι∙
οὓς σαυτὸν εἷλες τὸ κράτιστον κτημάτων·
ἀλλὰ καὶ κοσμήσων σε ταῖς εὐφημίαις∙
ὅσον χρέους ἅψασθαι. ὡς οἷον τέ μοι·
τὸ γὰρ κατ' ἀξίαν σοι, οὐ βροτῶν νόος∙
οὐ γλῶσσαι πᾶσαι εἰ συνῆλθον εἰς ἅμα,
συνεισενεγκεῖν οἶμαι δύναιντ' ἂν ὅλως:-

Palaeographical information The epigram is written by another, contemporary hand in two columns, to be read horizontally.
The first letter is written in red ink.
Contextual information The epigram is written above a miniature of Manuel II Palaiologos. A second epigram can be found below this miniature. In the left-hand margin there is a sample text in prose of Manuel himself, that served as inspiration for the poet.
