Comment The epigram only qualifies as book epigram if we consider the fact that the person mentioned in the poem, Andronikos Palaiologos, was in fact the sponsor of the manuscript, cf. Eustratiades (1924: 75): 'Ὁ Κῶδ. βασιλικός · ἐγράφη δὲ παρὰ τοῦ μοναχοῦ Χαρίτωνος, ὅστις φαίνεται ἦν γραφεὺς Ἀνδρονίκου τοῦ Παλαιολόγου τοῦ Δεσπότου Θεσσαλονίκης τοῦ ἐγκαταβιώσαντος ἐν τῇ μονῇ τοῦ Βατοπεδίου καὶ μετονομασθέντος Ἀκακίου'.

Cf. Lamberz (2008: 137) attributing the manuscript to an anonymous scribe rather than to Chariton, who is mentioned by Eustratiades: 'Der erste Band dieses Corpus (Vatop. 390; Abb. 9-10) wurde von einem weiteren Schreiber (E) kopiert'.
