Contextual information According to Spatharakis (1976: 34), the portraits represent Konstantinos X Doukas, his wife Eudokia and their son Michael VII. Anderson-Canart-Walter (1989: 25), however, argue that the miniature depicts Alexios I Komnenos, Eirene Doukaina and their son Ioannes II Komnenos.

Comment Rhoby (2015: 22): 'The opening punctuation of the verses echoes that of many inscriptions on objects: four dots arranged in the form of a cross (·:·) occur very often in painted or lapidary Byzantine inscriptions as well as inscriptions on icons and portable objects'.
