This manuscript contains the four Gospels with scholia in the three margins; in the lateral margins, these are often arranged in the form of a double cross. The scribe repeatedly added several epigrams, in which he mentions his name and profession, along both sides of the stems of these crosses. Marava-Chatzinicolaou (1978: 50): 'As far as we know, such regular presentation of scholia in symbolic forms and such frequent repetitions of the scribe's name, are not found in any other manuscript'.
These scholia and their cross-like shape, as well as the epigrams (with some adaptations) were copied in ms. Oxford Auct. D. 2.17 (11th-12th c.). Hutter (1982: 350): 'Kopiert und zugleich adaptiert wurden im Auct. D. 2.17 auch die Epigramme, wieder in identischer Position und Form und teilweise auch inhaltlich identisch. (...) Mit Sicherheit ist nur festzuhalten, daß die Oxforder Katene nicht von der Hand des Athener Kopisten stammt, die Schriftunterschiede sind viel zu groß und die Oxforder Katene ist deutlich junger. Auch die Willkür im Umgang mit den Versen der Epigramme zeigt, daß es sich im Auct. D. 2.17 um eine spätere Adaptierung handelt, während die Athener Epigramme den Eindruck authentischer Subskriptionen machen, sodaß der Kopist des Athen. 204 tatsächlich der Mönch, Priester und Katechet Neophytos gewesen sein dürfte.' |
