| τὸν δημιουργὸν εὐσεβῶς ἐδόξασε, | |

Giorgio di Pisidia fu l’autore grande di questo componimento, di questi giambi armoniosamente curati: essendosi attenuto con saggezza alla natura conveniente e bene ordinata delle opere create, e a come, in virtù di uno straordinario miracolo, si formò la loro reciproca connessione pur nella divisione, e avendole adoperate, anche se imperfettamente, come specchio dell’Essenza che trascende l’umano intelletto, come disse Paolo , ha piamente glorificato il Creatore, e dall’incontaminato prato dell' universo ha offerto a Dio un serto fiorito, che ha intrecciato con canti di molteplice e profonda riflessione: in esso il profumo avvampante delle scritture rappresenta misticamente la rosa, la candida chiarezza delle parole raffigura la forma lucente del giglio, la pregevole profondità dei concetti disegna a giusta ragione la viola rivestita di porpora splendente. Riproducendo il giardino dell’Eden, quest’opera, frutto di meditazioni, ha investigato il divino legno della vita, e quando gli occhi ne percorrono la scrittura fa scaturire per noi il frutto delle parole. Al Verbo che ha creato l’universo intero — quanto se ne riesce a percepire con il senso della vista, e quanto se ne può conoscere con l’intuizione della mente —, al Salvatore dell' umanità, al dispensatore delle divine Grazie, a Colui che adorna i meritevoli e che rende simili a stelle luminose coloro che sono intrisi della oscurità delle passioni, a Cristo grazie e gloria, onore e potenza, in unità con il Padre che è presussistente e con lo Spirito.

| Comment | Lauxtermann (2003: 199): 'In two manuscripts we find at the end of the Hexaemeron a longwinded epigram exalting its author, George of Pisidia. In Par. gr. 1302 (s. XIII) the epigram is anonymous; in Par. Suppl. gr. 690 (s. XII) it bears the heading: τοῦ αὐτοῦ εἰς ἑαυτόν ("by the same on himself"). There can be no doubt that this lemma is incorrect'. |
