	Ἐπείπερ ὁ πρῶτος σε ποιμὴν καὶ μέγας
	ὁ τὸ πλανηθὲν θρέμμα σώσας πανσόφως
	ποιμαντικῆς ἄριστα κοσμήσας τρόποις
	ταύτης κατεστήσατο τῆς τοῦ Προδρόμου
	σεπτῆς ἀληθῶς ἀγέλης πρωτοστάτην,
	πρόσηκε πάντως καὶ λόγοις ψυχοτρόφοις
	ὡς ἐν πόαις τρέφειν σε τοὺς ὑπηκόους.
	Οὐκοῦν δέδεξο τὴνδε τὴν θείαν βίβλον
	ἧς κρεῖττον οὐδὲν παντάπασι τῶν ὅλων
	καὶ τῆς ἑν αὐτῇ μυστικῆς ἑυκαρπίας
	τούτους κορεννὺς εὐστόχῳ διακρίσει
	σαυτὸν κόρῳ μάλιστα πάντοτε τρέφε.

Translation(s)	Because the first and great shepherd, who wisely saved the misled flock, has excellently adorned you with his commanding gifts, he has appointed you headman of this truly venerable herd of the Prodromos (monastery). However it is fitting that you nourish your subject with words that refresh the soul, as in a pasture. Accept, therefore, this divine book, which nothing whatever surpasses, and with its mystic fruitfulness satiate them with righteous judgement. Yourself as well you must be equally full.
