Contextual information | The epigram is preceded by a colophon in prose and is followed by another epigram, inc. 'πόνημα χειρῶ(ν) | ἀθλίου θε|οκτίστου'. Thereafter follows the title 'ἱερομονάχου', followed by the date. |
Metre(s) | Dodecasyllable |
Genre(s) | Scribe-related epigram |
Subject(s) | Jesus Christ (10 BC-1 BC - 30-33) |
Comment | The date which follows the epigrams contains one numeral which has become illegible: 'ετ(ους) ,ϛω(?) | ιν(δικτιῶνο)ς ε''. According to Bees' autopsy of the manuscript, this missing numeral could either be λ, ξ or ϟ. Bees states that the dating cannot be entirely certain, but he proposes ,ϛωϟ' (6890 = 1381/2) as date. (1998 [1967]: 531, 675). Based on comparative (paleographical and content-) analysis with a collection of Viennese manuscripts, however, Hunger and Kresten (1980: 195-196) argue that the manuscript should be dated to ,ϛωλ' (6830 = 1321/2). |
