Comment Anna Marava-Chatzinikolaou identifies "the Nicholas" as Patriarch Nicholas Grammatikos (1084–1111). This is followed by Pérez Martín (2016: 579), who suggests the poem refers to Nicholas’s role as a teacher at the patriarchal School of Saint Peter and the surrounding figures as his students.
