Αἱ πρὶν μέγισται φανερῶς εὐπραξίαι,
τὰ συνεχῆ τρόπαια καὶ ναυκρατίαι,
αἱ τῶν μεγάλων πραγμάτων εὐπραγίαι,
ὑφ’ ὧν ἀνηνέχθησαν εἰς ὕψος θράσους
Περσοκρατῶν Ἕλληνες οἱ πάλαι γόνοι,
πρὸς δυστυχίας τῆς πανωλέθρου χάος
ἄρτι κατηνέχθησαν, ἀντιπνευσάσης
τῆς εὐτυχίας εἰς μακρὰν ἀτυχίαν.
