| Comment | Eugenios of Palermo commissioned a translation of 'Stephanites and Ichnelates' into Greek. Lauxtermann (2018: 83): "In the old days before Sjöberg, when people still thought that Symeon Seth had translated the whole lot, the general impression was that Eugenios of Palermo had at best procured a copy of the text and that the prologue could therefore not be by him: the person speaking there had to be Symeon Seth. Now that we know that there were at least three translators: Symeon Seth, the anonymous translator of version Bδ, and Eugenios of Palermo’s team of translators, the problem no longer exists." The epigram also occurs in the 16th-century manuscripts Vat. Barb. gr. 172 and Par. suppl. gr. 692, and the 17th-century manuscripts Bucurest. 292 and Athos Iberon 1132. |
