Ἐκ μὲν θεοῖο βασιλεύει τῶς Ἰὼβ,
κῆρος δὲ Ῥαὰβ αἰσχύνης φεύγει θαῦμα.
Θεὸς γὰρ ἅρμα Σωφὰρ οἱ δῶκε σθένος
ἔνθεν τ' ὀιστὸς ἰσχὺν ἐχθροῦ οὐκ ἔχει,
ὃς προσκομίζει λύτρον ὡς πάλαι τ' Ἄβελ·
ὑπὲρ τὸν Ἄβελ εὐάρεστον καὶ Νῶε
νόμον τελῶν γευστὸν ἐν Χριστοῦ κρίσει.
Ὕμνον γὰρ ἐκ σου εὐαρεστήσεις δύο
νῦν τῆς θυσίας ἱκετείας μετρίας.

Critical Notes 7 γευστὸν ] γε ὑστὸν Mercati (1970: 453)
Comment Note the acrostic at the end and the beginning of each verse: ΕΚ ΘΕΟΥ ΝΥΝ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΣ.
Mercati (1970: 453) hypothesizes that the Basil to whom the epigram is dedicated is the Emperor Basil I (867-886).
