Ἐκ μὲν θεοῖο βασιλεύει τῶς Ἰὼβ,
κῆρος δὲ Ῥαὰβ αἰσχύνης φεύγει θαῦμα.
Θεὸς γὰρ ἅρμα Σωφὰρ οἱ δῶκε σθένος
ἔνθεν τ' ὀιστὸς ἰσχὺν ἐχθροῦ οὐκ ἔχει,
ὃς προσκομίζει λύτρον ὡς πάλαι τ' Ἄβελ·
ὑπὲρ τὸν Ἄβελ εὐάρεστον καὶ Νῶε
νόμον τελῶν γευστὸν ἐν Χριστοῦ κρίσει.
Ὕμνον γὰρ ἐκ σου εὐαρεστήσεις δύο
νῦν τῆς θυσίας ἱκετείας μετρίας.

Critical Notes 7 γευστὸν ] γε ὑστὸν Mercati (1970: 453)
Comment Note the fourfold acrostic: Ἐκ Θεοῦ νῦν ὁ βασιλεὺς βασιλεύει Βασιίλειος.
Mercati (1970: 453) hypothesizes that the Basil I (867-886) is referred to in this epigram. Hutter (2022: 598) thinks that the epigram is dedicated either to Basil I or to Basil II.
