Ὁ Φωκυλίδης εὐπρεπῆ ζήσας βίον,
ὡς Χριστομύστης, ὡς ἀπόστολος μέγας,
ὡς ἀκροατὴς τῶν Θεοῦ θεσπισμάτων,
καὶ μυσταγωγὸς τῶν ἀρίστων πρακτέων,
εὐαγγελικῶς ταῦτα λαλεῖ καὶ γράφει
εὔχρηστα τυγχάνοντα τοῖς ἐν τῷ βίῳ
καὶ τοῖς μέλλουσι τρυφᾶν σωτηριάδη

The book epigram is preserved in a series of manuscripts as an introduction to the poems of Pseudo-Phocylides. Different variants comprise from five to eight verses, see Derron (1986: CIII): 'Il faut signaler en premier lieu l'introduction de six (parfois cinq, exceptionnellement huit) vers iambiques sur la vie de Phocylide, intitules Στίχοι εἰς τὸν Φωκυλίδην (...)'
The type is currently based on the eight-verse occurrence featured in cod. Par. gr. 2551, f. 177v.
