Ἡ τῶν προφητῶν ἀκρότης Ἡσαΐας
τὸν νοῦν καθαρθεὶς ἄνθρακι φλογὸς ξένης
καὶ δὴ τὸ μέλλον ὡς ἐνεστὼς προβλέπων
Χριστοῦ διετράνωσε τὴν παρουσίαν
πτῶσιν προηγόρευσε τῶν Χριστοκτόνων,
πίστιν προεῖπε τῶν πρὶν ἔξωθεν νόμου
καὶ παντὶ κόσμῳ τὴν παλίρροιαν βίου,
πρισθεὶς φθόνῳ δὲ καὶ πόλον λαχὼν μένειν
ῥήσεις λέλοιπεν εἰς ὄνησιν ἐν βίῳ
ἅσπερ Νικήτας ὃν στέφους κοιτὼν ἔχει
ἐν ὡραϊσμῷ συντέθεικεν ἐνθάδε
εἰς πίστεως ἔνδειγμα, καὶ ψυχῆς λύτρον.

  • Isaiah, the apex of the prophets,
    His mind purged by the coal of a strange fire
    And foreseeing the future as if himself present
    Stated clearly the advent of Christ,
    Foretold the overthrow of the Christ-Slayers,
    Proclaimed the faith of those formerly outside the law,
    And the flowing back of life into all the world.
    But sawn apart by malice, and having obtained as his lot to dwell in heaven,
    He left precepts for profit in living
    Which Niketas, whom the bedchamber of the crown holds,
    as brought together in this place in adornment
    As token of his faith, and ransom of his soul.

    Geist durch die glühende Kohle einer sonderbaren Flamme gereinigt
    und der das Künftige gleichwie das Gegenwärtige schaute
    verkündete Christi Ankunft,
    prophezeite den Fall der Mörder Christi
    und sagte den Glauben der zuvor Gesetzlosen
    sowie die Wiedergeburt des ganzen Kosmos voraus –
    durch Neid zersägt erhielt er den Himmelsdom als Wohnstätte
    und hinterließ Worte, nützlich für den Weg durchs Leben.
    Diese ließ Niketas, den des Kaisers Gemächer beschäftigen,
    in Pracht hier vereinigen,
    zum Beweis seines Glaubens und zur Sühne für die Seele.
