Palaeographical information Written by a later hand in the right margin (hand 3, cf. Mazzucchi (1995)). Mazzucchi (1995: 254-255) identifies this hand as Niketas Choniates.

Critical apparatus by Mazzucchi (1995: 211):
2 ταφὴν ] sub τ- scripserat θ
Contextual information The epigram is written next to and comments on Diodorus Siculus' Bibliotheca historica 5.35.3. It does not seem to have a direct relation to the text it accompanies. Mazzucchi (1995: 242) suggests that Niketas Choniates was inspired to write these verses by the great fires in Constantinople in July-August 1203: "La sola ipotesi che io riesca a prospettare è che il nostro glossatore (...) fosse giunto al f. 277r dopo il 17/18 Iuglio, o il 19 agosto, allorché due terribili incendî devastarono Constantinopoli".
Metre(s) Dodecasyllable
Genre(s) Scribe-related epigram
Comment Due to the bad quality of the online reproduction, Mazzucchi (1995: 211) has been kept as text source.
